2024 market snapshot
The 2025 NAMM Global Report places the estimated 2024 U.S. pro-audio retail shipment value at $1.59 billion. This measurement covers shipments through the specialized musical-instrument retail channel and increased 3.3% from 2023.
Cabled microphones were the largest tracked category, representing 31.8% of 2024 pro-audio retail shipment value. Speaker enclosures accounted for 22.6%, while mixers held a 12.9% share. Wireless microphones contributed 12.6%.
The snapshot is useful because it separates several equipment groups that are often discussed together as “pro audio.” A microphone, mixer, cable, speaker enclosure, amplifier, or self-contained PA system therefore appears as its own reported category rather than being folded into one undifferentiated equipment total. The shares describe the composition of the tracked retail shipment value for 2024, while the longer series below gives the historical retail-value context for four categories.
The remaining tracked categories were cables at 10.3%, self-contained PA systems at 5.3%, and power amplifiers at 4.5%. The report included self-contained PA shipment values for the first time in 2024, so that category should be treated as a newly reported component of the snapshot rather than a directly comparable historical series.
| 2024 category | Share of tracked retail shipment value |
|---|---|
| Cabled microphones | 31.8% |
| Speaker enclosures | 22.6% |
| Mixers | 12.9% |
| Wireless microphones | 12.6% |
| Cables | 10.3% |
| Self-contained PA systems | 5.3% |
| Power amplifiers | 4.5% |
All category shares and the total market estimate in this section come from the 2025 NAMM Global Report and refer to 2024 U.S. retail shipment value.

Estimated U.S. mixer shipment retail value was $225 million in 2015, then $215 million in 2016 and $205 million in 2017. The value reached $200 million in 2018 before rising to $210 million in 2019.
The series dropped to $105 million in 2020. It recovered to $150 million in 2021, then reached $170 million in 2022 and $185 million in 2023. In 2024, estimated mixer shipment retail value rose to $205 million. The 2024 increase was 9.88% in retail value and 8.51% in units.
| Year | Estimated U.S. mixer shipment retail value |
|---|---|
| 2015 | $225 million |
| 2016 | $215 million |

These estimates are reported by the 2025 NAMM Global Report. The 2020 figure is the low point in this supplied series, while the 2024 value returned to the same nominal level as 2017.
The mixer series also shows a partial recovery after 2020. The reported estimates moved from $105 million in 2020 to $150 million in 2021, $170 million in 2022, $185 million in 2023, and $205 million in 2024. Those are annual reported values, not a forecast or a projection. The 2024 unit increase of 8.51% is stated separately from the 9.88% increase in retail value, so the two measures should not be treated as interchangeable.
Cable shipment values
Estimated U.S. cable shipment retail value was $165 million in 2015 and $158 million in 2016. It was $159 million in 2017, $160 million in 2018, and $163 million in 2019.
The estimated value fell to $150 million in 2020. It recovered to $155 million in 2021 and $157 million in 2022, followed by $160 million in 2023. In 2024, estimated cable shipment retail value reached $162 million, up 1.88% from 2023.
| Year | Estimated U.S. cable shipment retail value |
|---|---|
| 2015 | $165 million |
| 2016 | $158 million |
| 2017 | $159 million |

| 2019 | $163 million |
| 2020 | $150 million |
| 2021 | $155 million |
| 2022 | $157 million |
| 2023 | $160 million |
| 2024 | $162 million |
The 2025 NAMM Global Report also identifies cables as 10.3% of tracked 2024 pro-audio retail shipment value. The 2015–2024 series shows a relatively narrow range, with the highest supplied value in 2015 and the lowest in 2020.
Power-amplifier shipment trends
Power amplifiers had an estimated U.S. shipment retail value of about $125 million and volume of about 315,000 units in 2015. The corresponding 2016 estimates were about $121 million and 285,000 units, followed by about $117 million and 260,000 units in 2017.

The 2025 NAMM Global Report lists power amplifiers at 4.5% of tracked 2024 pro-audio retail shipment value. Both the value and unit figures in this section are approximate estimates.
The power-amplifier data includes both value and volume for every year in the supplied 2015–2024 sequence. That makes 2024 distinct from categories for which only retail value is listed. The reported 2024 estimate of about $71 million and about 125,000 units is the latest annual observation in this series, while the 2020 estimate of about $58 million and about 115,000 units is the lowest reported value and volume combination.
Speaker-enclosure shipment values
Estimated U.S. speaker-enclosure shipment retail value was $490 million in 2015, $495 million in 2016, and $505 million in 2017. It increased to $525 million in 2018 and $540 million in 2019.
The estimated value fell to $300 million in 2020. It recovered to $330 million in 2021 and $360 million in 2022, then was $350 million in 2023. In 2024, estimated speaker-enclosure shipment retail value reached $365 million, up 4.35% from 2023.

| 2021 | $330 million |
| 2022 | $360 million |
| 2023 | $350 million |
| 2024 | $365 million |
Speaker enclosures accounted for 22.6% of tracked 2024 pro-audio retail shipment value, according to the 2025 NAMM Global Report. The supplied series places the highest estimated value in 2019 and the lowest in 2020.
The speaker-enclosure figures show a rise from the 2015 estimate of $490 million to $540 million in 2019, followed by a lower estimate of $300 million in 2020. The later values—$330 million in 2021, $360 million in 2022, $350 million in 2023, and $365 million in 2024—remain part of the same U.S. retail shipment-value series. They should be read as annual estimates for this category, not as measurements of individual speaker units.
Cabled-microphone shipment values
Estimated U.S. cabled-microphone shipment retail value was $410 million in 2015 and $415 million in 2016. It rose to $430 million in 2017, $450 million in 2018, and $460 million in 2019.
Unlike the other major equipment series listed here, the cabled-microphone estimate increased to $490 million in 2020. It then reached a peak of $580 million in 2021. The estimated value declined to $530 million in 2022 and $515 million in 2023.
In 2024, estimated U.S. cabled-microphone shipment retail value was $510 million, down 0.98% year over year. Cabled microphones represented 31.8% of tracked 2024 pro-audio retail shipment value, the largest category share in the 2025 NAMM Global Report.
| Year | Estimated U.S. cabled-microphone shipment retail value |
|---|---|
| 2015 | $410 million |
